Driver bailed after cyclist dies

A man has been questioned on suspicion of dangerous driving after a cyclist died following a collision with a car.

Kate Auchterlonie, 28, from Cardiff was pronounced dead at the scene, on Mountain Road, Caerphilly, following the incident at around 0925 GMT.

She had been in collision with a Honda car, said Gwent Police, who have appealed for witnesses.

Officers said a 28-year-old man from Caerphilly has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Inspector Lee Ford, from the roads policing unit, said: "This is a very tragic incident and a full police investigation has commenced."

He added: "It is likely that people may have witnessed this incident and left the scene and I would appeal for anybody who has any information about this incident or may have seen the cyclist or the Honda car before the collision to contact us."

The mountain road has reopened.

Anyone with information was asked to call Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or 01633 643091.
