The stepfather of a 15-year-old boy who died of multiple stab wounds is understood to be in custody in connection with the death.

Jamie Yeates died on Thursday morning after the stabbing at his home in Grant Street, Llanelli, at 0255 GMT.

Jamie's 18-year-old sister Kimberly is being treated for stab wounds in hospital, his head teacher said.

Police said they have been granted extra time to interview a man and they are not looking for anyone else.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on Jamie's body on Thursday and police said he died from multiple stab wounds.

The boy's sister received knife wounds to an arm and underwent surgery in hospital, said Geraint Roberts from Ysgol Gyfun y Strade.

Officers said a woman was injured in the incident and that she was being treated at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. They said her condition was not life threatening.

Two tents were erected by forensic officers in the street where the incident occurred - one in the middle of Grant Street and another outside a semi-detached property.

Two mobile police stations remain in the Grant Street area and neighbourhood policing teams are carrying out regular patrols.

Residents who may be concerned following the incident are encouraged to approach the officers.

Neighbours paid tribute to "lovely and polite" Jamie, who they said had ambitions to become a jockey.

He attended the Welsh and English language secondary school Ysgol Gyfun y Strade, where head teacher Mr Roberts said: "He was a very happy, well-behaved and lovely boy.

"He had great delight in the prospect of becoming a jockey. He did some work experience through the school and went to a stables in Carmarthen and loved it.

"He had even lined up an apprenticeship to become a jockey, which is very rare."

"He was a year 11 pupil and I don't think there was much work carried out in year 11 today."

He said stress counselling was being offered to both pupils and staff at the school.

On his Bebo web page, the dead teenager described himself as Jamie the Jockey and wrote of his intentions to attend the Northern Racing College in Doncaster after completing his GCSEs.

Tributes from friends have poured in to the site. One wrote:
