Police have released CCTV pictures of an attempted armed robbery at a betting shop in Cardiff.

One of the men involved threatened the cashier with what is believed to be a shotgun at the Ladbrokes betting shop in Llanedeyrn.

The attempted robbery took place at about 2125 GMT on Tuesday in the shop at the Maelfa shopping centre.

South Wales Police said they had made extra patrols in the area and conducted house-to-house inquiries.

Both men left the betting shop after the cashier screamed to a colleague. No-one was injured in the incident, nor was anything stolen.

Police also said the firearm, which can be clearly seen in one of the CCTV images they have released, was not discharged.

The second man is described as wearing a grey hooded coat with a hooded top underneath. He also had a grey scarf over his face.

Det Sgt Cronick said both suspects were wearing very distinctive clothing and appealed to anyone with information about the incident to contact South Wales Police urgently.
