Farm's slurry waste spill probed

Map of Carmarthenshire
The slurry incident was reported after residents complained of a bad smell

Police are investigating after slurry waste was released from a farm tank leaving a village with an unpleasant smell on Christmas Day.

Thousands of gallons came from a store on a farm at Llansawel, Carmarthenshire, into a stream which led to the River Cothi.

Dyfed-Poyws Police said people in Abergorlech, around three miles away, were affected.

The force said the Environment Agency was heading the investigation.

It is thought the slurry was released sometime between Christmas Eve and Christmas day and worked its way through fields before entering the water.

No dead fish have been found by Environment Agency officials, who said its examination was continuing.
