450 jobs at risk at metal plant

As many as 450 jobs are at risk at an aluminium factory near Newport, south Wales.

Novelis Europe, which rolls and recycles the material from used drinks cans, said it needed to cut costs and save money at its plant in Rogerstone.

The firm said it had begun a 90-day consultation period with workers.

The firm said it was expected to lose £8m this financial year. Novelis Europe's website says it employs around 12,700 people in 11 countries.
