Man, 81, charged after OAP deaths

An 81-year-old man has been charged with causing death by careless driving after two elderly women were knocked down in a street.

Doreen Morgan, 74, and Sylvia Softley, 73, died following the collision in Llandowlais Street in Oakfield, Cwmbran, on 3 October.

They were both from the town.

Gwent Police said the man, from Cwmbran, has been bailed to appear before magistrates in Abergavenny on Thursday, 4 December.

Police said Ms Morgan died shortly after the crash and her friend died on the Friday evening.
