The fire-damage
Officers are making house to house inquiries in the area

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an arson attack at a house.

Those inside the house in Cory Street, Resolven, near Neath, needed hospital treatment for smoke inhalation.

The incident happened at around 2230 BST on Saturday, leaving the house severely damaged, said South Wales Police.

Detectives are also examining a car, which they think may have been used by the suspect.

A spokesman said the fire was being treated as suspicious and a 26-year-old man from Neath has been arrested.

The occupants of the house were discharged after treatment.

Det Insp Simon Davies, from South Wales Police, said: "We wish to reassure the community that we do not believe this was a random attack and that a man was arrested close to the scene soon after the fire.

"He remains in custody".

He said officers were carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police on 01792 456999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
