Man dies in hospital window fall

An elderly man has died after falling from a window at Cardiff Royal Infirmary.

John Manley was 86 and a patient at the hospital. He fell from a third floor window.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said the matter had been referred to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), but said the death was not suspicious.

The Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust said it was offering support to patients and staff following Mr Manley's death.

Peter Welsh from Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust said: "I can confirm that there was an incident involving one of our patients falling from the third floor of West Wing Hospital. Sadly the patient died as a result.

"The police are investigating and we are supporting their investigation.

"We are offering support to patients and staff following this traumatic incident. The trust has already started an internal inquiry and safety audit to see what lessons can be learned."
