Driver, 81, held over OAP's death

An 81-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after two women pensioners were knocked down.

Gwent Police said one women, aged 74, died in hospital after the incident on Llandowlaid Street, in Oakfield, Cwmbran, at about 1225 BST on Friday.

The second woman, aged 73, is seriously ill in the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport. The car driver was uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
