Boy's suicide after French trip

A 14-year-old boy hanged himself in his bedroom after leaving a text message and note for a girl he had met at Disneyland Paris, an inquest heard.

Ben Perrin was found by his sister in March at their home in Abergele, Conwy.

He had left a text message to the 15-year-old Yorkshire girl and a note in which he spoke of his love for her, the inquest at Llandudno heard.

The north east Wales coroner recorded a verdict of suicide, saying there was nothing anyone could have foreseen.

Ben had sent a text message to the girl he had met in February, saying: "I'm sorry, I love you more than anything in the world."

The inquest also heard how the teenager had left a note in which he spoke of his love for her, and how after she left "a chill fell in the gap and I felt so alone".

He wrote: "I will be in heaven watching over you always."

Ben who had competed for Wales as a swimmer, was wearing his school uniform when his 17-year-old sister found him in his bedroom.

His form teacher Jonathan Flavell described him as a "happy and likeable" pupil and said: "He was always the life and soul of the classroom."

Recording a suicide verdict, coroner Kirit Champaneria said: "The only clue that there is to what might have been going on in Benjamin's mind comes from the e-mails and text messages and the note left by him for this girl he met in Disneyland."

"I make no finding at all as to the reasons that might have come about. There was nothing anybody could have foreseen here."
