A wedding couple were treated to a surprise when boxer Joe Calzaghe took a break from promoting his next fight to wish them well and pose for photos.

Groom Jason Tennetta and his bride Kathryn were married in Cardiff City Hall - the same venue where the boxer was hosting a publicity event.

After meeting and greeting 600 fans, the boxer posed with the newlyweds from Beddau near Pontypridd.

Calzaghe is due to fight American Roy Jones Junior in November.

Mr Tennetta, 26, said afterwards: "I've been to see a few of his fights and hopefully I'm going to see him when he next fights in New York in November."

His 25-year-old bride Kathryn said: "We were married in the room just along the way but we didn't know anything about it until Jason saw something on the television."

Mark Munnery, venues manager for Cardiff Council, said: "I'm sure the bride and groom were thrilled. It was an unexpected surprise.

"Everyone seems to have gotten something out of the day; the fans, the media, the broadcasters and the wedding party."
