A MAmbulance (generic)
The rescue was "traumatic and prolonged" according to a paramedic

A man is being treated in hospital after his legs were trapped in the blades of a combine harvester.

It took almost four hours for paramedics and firefighters to release the 56-year-old from the machine on a farm in Llanvapley near Abergavenny.

Medical personnel from other agencies were also involved in the rescue which took place on Wednesday evening.

The man was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny where he was treated for serious leg injuries.

Advanced paramedic Tim Jones, who attended the scene, said it was a "traumatic, particularly difficult and prolonged incident" and paramedics had to work in a very confined space.

He added that a number of other medical personnel worked with ambulance crews and firefighters to provide care to the man.

"We send our best wishes to the casualty and his family," he said.
