Police investigating an attack on a pregnant woman have been given more time to question a man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Nerys Price, 35, gave birth by emergency Caesarian section hours after she and her partner Simon Morris were assaulted at their home.

Their daughter Freya was delivered before Ms Price, from Prestatyn, Denbighshire, received surgery for her head injuries.

Police say the arrested man is aged 36.

The man, who lives locally, appeared before a special court at Llandudno on Monday morning and officers were given a further 36 hours to question him.

Doctors at Glan Clwyd Hospital, Bodelwyddan, decided to deliver the baby amid fears for Ms Price's health after the attack, which happened early on Friday 15 August.

She was hit twice on the head with a weapon, and Mr Morris was also hit in the back as he tried to protect her.

Ms Price, who received treatment for her injuries at Walton Hospital, Liverpool, later returned home.
