Catherine Zeta Jones' grandmother, after whom the film star was named, has died in Swansea, at the age of 91.

The Oscar winning actress remained close to her grandmother, Zeta, flying in from Bermuda earlier this year to bring flowers for her birthday.

The actress, who is married to Michael Douglas and has two children, is expected to return to Wales for the funeral.

Widow Mrs Jones is believed to have died at her daughter's home.

It is thought she had been unwell for several days before her death.

She had lived in the Ravenhill area of the city for the past 60 years, and took her exotic name from a Swansea merchant ship called The Zeta, which carried copper from south America to Wales.

Next-door neighbour, Mike Thomas, 60, said: "I've known Mrs Jones since I was born. She was a real duchess.

"She was extremely popular, always chattering to people, and very proud of Catherine, but never going on about her too much."

Mrs Jones was the mother of Catherine's businessman father Dai.
