£17m regeneration plans on show

Proposals for a £17m business park which developers say will create hundreds of jobs have been unveiled.

The proposals to develop the area south of Ruabon, near Wrexham, were revealed by developers, Liberty Properties and Sainsbury's.

It is part of a public consultation over the plans which include a superstore and office space.

Liberty Properties and Sainsbury's said a joint planning application had been submitted to Wrexham Council.

A public exhibition about the plans will be on show at the Wynnstay Arms Hotel in Ruabon on Monday and Tuesday between 1400 and 1900 BST.

The proposed site of the development, which the developers have called Ruabon Business Park, is to the south of the town centre on the Wynnstay Estate, adjacent to the A539 which links to the A483 running between Wrexham and Oswestry.

The developers say if permission is granted, the park would be built in three phases and could create a number of jobs in the area.

It includes a 33,000sq ft Sainsbury's foodstore and petrol station and state-of-the-art 'office village'.

Rejuvenation plans

Emyr Williams, director, Liberty Properties, commented: "Our ambitious plans for Ruabon are aimed at rejuvenating the town's economy and providing jobs for local people.

"The location is ideal for such a development, close to the centre of Ruabon and adjacent to the major road links between Wrexham and Oswestry and represents an opportunity to revitalise Ruabon.

"We are confident in delivering a high quality scheme which will be a valuable asset for the town and will attract much new business into the area, acting as a major catalyst for the future regeneration of the town."

Vicky Shaw, of Sainsbury's, said a development would bring benefits to the area, including the creation of new jobs.

"Sainsbury's and Liberty Properties want to hear the views of as many local residents and businesses as possible, and we are hosting a public exhibition where the plans will be on show and representatives from the project team will be available to discuss the development in greater detail," she said.

Wrexham Council has said it cannot comment on the proposals until the planning application has been dealt with.
