No arrests over honeymoon murders

Police in Antigua have denied local reports of arrests in connection with the murders of a honeymoon couple from south Wales.

Catherine and Ben Mullany, both 31, from Pontardawe, were shot on the last day of their holiday in the Caribbean.

Police chiefs said no-one was in custody and denied claims in the Caribbean over two arrests.

Meanwhile, a man questioned about the murders has been reportedly released pending further enquiries.

Inspector Cornelius Charles from the Antiguan police force said they had been questioning a local man, Clarence "Cloud" James, who has a partner living in the UK.

But it is now reported that he has been released.

In a statement, Mr Charles added there was currently no one in custody for the murders and denied local rumours of two further arrests.

He wrote: "There was a rumour flying around this afternoon (Wednesday, 6 August) on a local radio station and ongoing, claiming that two men were arrested today for the double murder of the Mullanys after their girlfriends turned them in.

"For the record this is absolutely false. No one is arrested or in custody for these murders or any other murder."

Dr Mullany was killed instantly on 27 July, while her husband died on Sunday after being flown back to Wales.

Post-mortem examinations were conducted on the bodies of the Mullanys, from Pontardawe near Swansea, on Wednesday which confirmed that they both died as a result of gunshot injuries to the head.
