Young climber rescued after fall

A teenager was airlifted from the summit of Snowdon after falling down a slope on Monday afternoon.

The 17-year-old suffered head injuries and a suspected broken arm in the fall. Rescuers said he was "very lucky" considering the distance he fell.

It is thought he fell 100ft (30m) near the summit of Snowdon.

Teams from Llanberis and North Wales Police were involved in the rescue of the youngster, who was winched aboard the RAF Sea King helicopter.

The emergency was raised shortly before 1600 BST on Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said the teenager was airlifted off the mountain at 1710 BST.
