Pc, 28, dies during Greek holiday

A South Wales Police officer has died while on holiday on a Greek island.

Pc Rhydian Boast, a single man of 28 from Caerphilly, was found dead on Kos in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police have not released details of the death of Pc Boast, who was a member of the neighbourhood policing team in Cardiff city centre.

Officers said Pc Boast's death was not thought to be suspicious. The force is liaising with the Foreign Office, which is providing assistance.

Ch Supt Josh Jones paid tribute to Pc Boast, saying he was a credit to the force who will be greatly missed.

He said: "Rhydian was a highly respected officer and made a real difference through his work with the city centre neighbourhood policing team.

'Extremely impressed'

"He was very popular amongst his colleagues and his death is huge loss to the division.

"I accompanied Rhydian on patrol recently and was extremely impressed by his knowledge of his patch and the community spoke very highly of him.

"My thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time, " he added.

A police spokeswoman said they were still waiting for details of the death. She added: "Everybody knew him and he was well liked".

Friends paid tribute on social networking websites where they spoke of their shock at the Pc's sudden death.

One tribute on Facebook said: "Sadly Rhydian passed away while on holiday. He will be missed greatly by all friends and colleagues. RIP mate, you will not be forgotten."

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said Pc Boast's next-of-kin had been informed and it was providing consular assistance.
