An ex-police constable has appeared in court accused of possessing more than 2,000 indecent images of children.

Geoffrey Harries, 49, of Pembrey, in Carmarthenshire, is alleged to have had 2,082 images on his computer during the time he worked at Dyfed-Powys Police.

Mr Harries, who has since resigned, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court charged with making and possessing the indecent images.

He was released on bail until 16 June to stand trial at Cardiff Crown Court.

The court heard nine of the images found on the computer were classed as level five - the most serious on the scale.

Mr Harries, who stood down from the force on 26 March, is accused of 15 offences of making indecent images between May 2005 and December 2007 and one charge of possessing indecent images on 26 November last year.

District Judge John Charles released Mr Harries on bail until 16 June to stand trial at Cardiff Crown Court.

The case has been brought following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
