Teenager rescued from riverbank

A 15-year-old girl has been rescued from a riverbank in Llantrisant by firefighters.

South Wales Fire Service used lines to recover the girl, who had become trapped five metres below the level of the ground.

The riverbank was near the offices of the Buy As You View company in the Forest View business park.

The fire service said the girl had not been injured.


Driver dies after lamp post crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 33-year-old man died when his car collided with a lamp post on the A4067 in Swansea.

The crash happened on Monday at 2050 BST and involved a silver Honda Civic.

Police are keen to speak to the occupants of two other cars which were known to be present on the A4067 at the time of the incident.

Any witnesses or people who saw the way the Honda Civic was being driven before the collision should call the police.


Woman, 44, is found dead in bath

A post-mortem examination carried out on a woman found dead in a bath has failed to establish what caused her death.

The woman, aged 44, was discovered by her husband at Gronant, Prestatyn, Denbighshire, on Saturday afternoon.

North Wales Police said they were treating the woman's death as unexplained.

They are now awaiting the results of toxicology tests but these could take up to four weeks.


Valleys hotel's summer opening

Travelodge has announced the summer opening of a new 58-room hotel in Merthyr Tydfil.

A total of 15 jobs will be created in the £2.9m investment which will be located on the A470/A4120.

The hotel chain's District Manager Tyrone Pope said he was looking forward to bringing a team together.

Merthyr Tydfil Travelodge, which is currently being built, is expected to open in July and staff are being recruited.


Arrest after Newport sex assault

A 44-year-old man has been arrested after a teenage woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault in Newport.

The 18-year-old was attacked in the subway near the Old Rising Sun Public House in the Shaftsbury area of the city at around 0420 BST on Thursday.

Gwent Police described the assault as a "horrific crime" which has left its young victim "severely traumatised".

The man was released on police bail pending further enquiries. Anyone with any information should contact Newport CID on 01633 838 111 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
