School evacuated after small fire
Pupils and teachers were evacuated from Monmouth Comprehensive School in Monmouthshire after a small blaze.

Monmouth leisure centre, which is on the same site, was also evacuated.

It is understood the fire started in the school's toilets on the ground floor of a two-storey building. Nobody was injured.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters were called to the deal with the blaze at around 1540 GMT on Monday.


Teenager remand on murder charge

A 16-year-old youth been remanded in custody at Swansea Crown Court accused of murdering a young woman.

Hairdresser Kelly Hyde, 24, was found dead in woodland near Ammanford where she had been walking her pet dog.

The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, has already entered a not guilty plea to a charge of murder and spoke only to confirm his name.

He was remanded in youth custody ahead of a trial starting on 30 June.


Man dies after two-car collision

A man has died following a collision involving two cars near Chepstow in Monmouthshire.

Gwent Police said John McCann, from nearby Devauden, died on Friday night in hospital.

Mr McCann was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, after the collision on the road between Devauden and St Arvans on Friday.

A man aged 47, from Porthcawl, who was driving a van, received minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital.


Controlled explosion on Gower

Experts have carried out a detonation after ordnance was washed up at Oxwich Bay on Gower.

The controlled explosion took place at about 1400 GMT on Sunday.

The ordnance was spotted yesterday by a member of the public.

A 600m cordon kept members of the public away from the explosion, carried out by the Emergency Ordnance Disposal Unit from Plymouth.


Man jailed after drunken attack

A man turned violent after drinking eight pints of beer and 16 vodkas, Cardiff Crown Court has heard.

Maintenance worker Jayson Price, 18, of Pontypridd, started an argument outside a nightclub - then knocked out a man with a punch.

Price admitted actual bodily harm and was jailed for 12 months.

The court heard he could not remember what had happened but apologised after he was shown CCTV footage of the attack outside Pontypridd's Qudos nightclub.


Street indecent assault on woman

An indecent assault on a woman in Swansea has prompted an appeal for information by South Wales Police.

Two women were walking along St Helens Road from the direction of Kingsway at about 0230 GMT on Sunday, 24 February.

A man of Asian appearance approached them approached them, hugged one woman and indecently assaulted her.

He is described as aged about 30, 5ft 4in - 6ft, (1.62m - 1.83m), slim, wearing square glasses, dark clothing and a beanie style hat.
