Police are investigating after an incident outside a Welsh pub which led to actor Marc Bannerman being arrested following a row with photographers.

Mr Bannerman, who was visiting fellow I'm a Celebrity contestant Cerys Matthews, had been followed to the Ship Inn in Trefin, Pembrokeshire.

The pair, who became close while living in the Australian jungle for the reality show, had been having a meal.

Mr Bannerman and another man have since been released on police bail.

The former EastEnders actor had travelled to Ms Matthew's west Wales home last week and the pair had been spotted in various locations around Pembrokeshire, including Newport.

Meriel Murphy, who owns the Ship Inn, said the former Catatonia singer had been in a "distressed state" following the confrontation.

"It was horrible because they had such a nice time in the pub" she said.

"They had a meal and it was lovely to see Cerys because I have known her for many years before she was famous.

"It was nice that she called in to say 'hello' and it is just a shame it ended like that."

She added: "One minute everything was fine and they were having a meal and when they tried to leave they couldn't get out.

"There were around 15 photographers around the car blocking them in the car park and they refused to let them out.

"Cerys was very distressed and I had to fetch a car to take her home.

"I think Marc Bannerman kept his cool very well. He got out and remained polite and said: 'For God's sake, let us go' but they were just laughing and making fun."

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman confirmed they were continuing to investigate an incident outside the Ship Inn on Friday afternoon.

She said: "Two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. They have been released on police bail pending further inquiries."
