Police investigating the murder of a 29-year-old man in Merthyr Tydfil have named him as Craig Thompson.

Detectives are carrying out enquiries in the Lavender Road area of the Gurnos estate after the body was found at an address there at 0100 GMT on Friday.

Police said a local man of 51 had been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

They are appealing for information about a disturbance in a Lavender Road house between midnight and 0130 GMT.

Police officers and paramedics attended the address after a report of a disturbance and discovered the man's body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A forensic examination of the house is underway and a Home Office pathologist will carry out a post mortem examination later on Friday to try to establish the exact cause of death.

An incident room has been set up at Mountain Ash police station.

Anyone with any information about the incident, or who witnessed an altercation at the address or in the street between about midnight and 0100 GMT, is asked to call the incident room on 01443 743678.
