Africa crash family were 'robbed'
Cameron Humphreys
Six-month-old Cameron Humphreys died a few days after the crash
A friend of a couple from Powys, whose baby son died in a car crash in Swaziland, has claimed they were robbed as they lay in their wrecked car.

Mervyn Humphreys, 37, from Caersws, was seriously hurt and is being treated in hospital in Pretoria, in South Africa.

Lee Brown, who works with Mr Humphreys, said a handbag and wallet were taken before emergency services arrived.

Mr Brown is also raising funds to pay for Mr Humphreys' mother's stay in South Africa while he recovers.

Mr Brown has estimated that £9,000 could be needed to meet Dorothy Humphreys' expenses and she may have to stay in Pretoria for three months.

He and other friends of the family had already clubbed together to pay for Mrs Humphreys' flight to South Africa over a week ago.

As well as distributing collection tins in pubs around the town of Caersws, Mr Brown and another friend are organising a car boot sale in Newtown and a music event to raise more funds.

Safari park

Mr Humphreys and his wife Portia, a Swaziland national, had been driving to a safari park on 21 August when they were involved in the crash.

The family were airlifted to hospital and their six-month-old son Cameron was put on a life support machine but died a few days later.

Mr Humphreys, a plumber, suffered a broken leg, a broken ankle, a broken pelvis, a broken jaw, broken ribs and a broken bone in the back of his neck in the crash. He is also paralysed down one side.

His wife, who he married in Swaziland on 6 August, suffered neck injuries. She had been living in Caersws for around six years
