Prison absconder returns to jail

Gary Shepherd is serving a sentence for drugs offences
A 39-year-old man who absconded from Prescoed open prison in Usk, in Monmouthshire is back in custody.

Gary Clayton Shepherd, who was serving a six-year sentence for possession of drugs, failed to return to the jail on Wednesday, 25 July.

Gwent Police say he surrendered himself to the prison service on Monday.

Officers wanted to thank the public for their co-operation. Shepherd was convicted at Bristol Crown Court in July 2003.
