Worker hurt in molten iron spill
Corus Port Talbot
The incident happened at the works early on Wednesday
A steelworker has been taken to hospital with a non-burns related injury after a spillage of molten iron at the Corus works in Port Talbot.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service said three fire crews were sent to the steelworks after the alarm was raised at about 0430 BST on Wednesday.

Corus said the spillage occurred as the iron was being transported.

It is believed the worker was injured as he exited a crane. He is likely to be discharged from hospital soon.

A spokesman for Corus said the iron was in a container on rails as it was being prepared for transfer to a steel making furnace.

"The spillage occurred away from the blast furnace site - it was very quickly isolated and made safe," he said.

The company said the blast furnace was "put down" for a short period as "a matter of precaution".

Production at the site was unaffected.
