Cupid's arrow misses the Welsh

Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas's eyes met at a film festival

Welsh women are the least likely in the UK to have experienced love at first sight and Welsh men fare little better, according to a new survey.

Statistics by the romance novel publishers Mills and Boon show only 29% of women and 32% of men have been hit by cupid's arrow.

But more than 70% of Welsh people believe you can meet your match at first glance.

According to the 2000 Mills & Boon Global Romance Survey 74% of Welsh men and 84% of women believe in love at first sight - but less than a third of people in Wales have actually experienced the phenomenon.

For those Welsh people who did marry their love at first sight, seven in 10 men and six in 10 women are still married.

Welsh men fall for a nice smile while women in Wales are attracted by the other person's eyes.

The place where most Welsh men found their match was in a club and most women found their match in a bar. Nine in 10 men and women believe in happy endings.

Author of romantic novels Katherine George, who is just starting work on her 54th novel, totally agreed - she fell in love with her husband straight away.

"I think most of us have experienced attraction and I have experienced love at first sight," she said.

"I wasn't looking for it, I wasn't even very old but it happened."
