Police are appealing for witnesses after a 20-year-old died after an attack in Bridgend train station car park on Friday night.

Ryan Leigh Edwards died in hospital on Sunday after sustaining fatal injuries in the assault at 2310 BST.

Officers said there may have been a number of altercations leading up to the assault, near to station and Bar Inc which is on Derwen Road.

Three men are in custody being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Detectives revealed on Monday that two other men assaulted were admitted to hospital - one with serious facial injuries and the other with minor injuries.

They have since been discharged from the town's Princess of Wales Hospital.

Detectives believe there may have been an initial altercation involving two groups of men at Bar Inc sometime between 1900 BST and 2300 BST.

They said a group of around seven men left the venue at just before 2300 BST, and were followed by another group of men to the train station.

'Mobile phone'

Det Sup Paul Kemp said: "We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the assault at the train station.

"In particular, I'm keen to trace two young men, one was wearing a 'hoody' top and the other was wearing a cap.

"We would also like to talk to a young male who was on a bicycle and who lent his mobile phone to the group of seven men."

Police also want to trace the driver of a red Toyota Yaris, which was parked in the car park at the time of the assault, who may have been a witness.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 01656 306099 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
