Inquiry clears senior police officer

North Wales Police headquarters A senior officer from Humberside was called in to investigate

A senior detective with North Wales Police has been cleared of misconduct after a probe into a number of allegations.

The Assistant Chief Constable of Humberside, Gordon Clark, had been called in to investigate allegations surrounding Detective Superintendent Peter Ackerley.

The inquiry was carried out under the supervision of the Police Complaints Authority.

But a statement by North Wales's Deputy Chief Constable John Owen said the inquiry had been completed and the rumours were found to be unsubstantiated.

No further action is being taken against Det Supt Ackerley who was not suspended during the probe.

He is expected to be officially confirmed shortly as the new head of CID in the north Wales force.

Among investigations led by Det Supt Ackerley was Britain's biggest inquiry into the abuse of children in council care in north Wales.
