Speculation that Welsh actress Catherine Zeta Jones's relationship with Michael Douglas was over appeared premature amid reports that the Hollywood actor spent Christmas in Swansea with her.

Zeta Jones, 30, had been expected to spend Christmas in Los Angeles with 55-year-old Douglas and his family.

But when she arrived in Britain last week alone for a surprise Christmas with her own family it appeared the couple's high-profile romance was over.

However, it is reported that Douglas, who starred in Fatal Attraction, Wall Street and Basic Instinct, arrived in Britain on Christmas Eve and joined Zeta Jones and her family for a meal at Hanson's restaurant in Swansea.

Within weeks of their relationship being made public earlier this year, it was claimed the couple would soon marry.

Anticipation of impending marriage rose in the summer when she was seen wearing a £180,000 diamond and gold ring.

That led to rumours that the pair would announce their engagement on 25 September, the birth date they share, at a lavish party in his Malibu mansion, although the announcement never came.
