Abusive child supervisor is jailed

Mold Crown Court Richard Leake was criticised in Mold Crown Court

A former supervisor at two children's homes in north Wales has been jailed for five years for indecently assaulting boys in his care in the 1970s.

During a 10-day trial last month at Mold Crown Court, Richard Leake denied abusing boys and said his victims were simply making it up to get compensation.

But since being convicted of 14 charges of indecent assault he has made a full confession at Altcourse Prison.

Richard Leake Leake abused his position, the court heard
Sentencing him, Judge Roger Dutton said it was a pity Leake was not man enough to own up in the first place.

Some of his victims, now men in their 30s, had broken down while giving evidence.

Leake, 58, sexually assaulted boys in his care while working as a supervisor at Bersham Children's Home in Wrexham and later as principal at Ystrad Hall in Llangollen.

He was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and pay £36,000 in costs.
