Dragon dream is realised

Dragon The dragon can be seen for miles around

The millennium is being marked with a patriotic welcome on a hillside in mid Wales.

Huw Jones from Cemmaes Road near Machynlleth has almost completed a huge dragon measuring 90ft by 70ft even though he had to sell his car to do it.

It is the realisation of a 10-year dream for Mr Jones.

He even sold his BMW car with personalised plates to pay for the special red stones which were transported from Ross-on-Wye in south east Wales.

"I'm really pleased that I've got so far," said Mr Jones.

"I've wanted to do it for such a long time. I'm really glad to see it materialise."

Local schoolchildren have been keenly watching the dragon's progress and they are impressed with the fully-grown beast.

After fighting off planning objections and six months of work, the dragon can now be seen for miles around - ensuring an impressive welcome on the hillside for the millennium.
