Funding cuts cause Arts Council unrest
Orchestra There has been criticism of Arts Council of Wales funding decisions

BBC Wales has learned that staff working for the Arts Council of Wales are considering a vote of no confidence in the management of the organisation.

An overwhelming majority of council employees have voted in favour of holding the ballot.

The news came after recent controversy over ACW funding allocation for the arts in Wales.

Performing arts Employees voted in favour of holding the ballot.
It is decisions like the one to cut the funding of the educational theatre groups Gwent Theatre and Theatre Powys which have thrown the Arts Council of Wales into the spotlight in recent weeks.

There has been fierce criticism of the organisation and calls for a review of the way funding is allocated.

Now the BBC has learned there is also discontent among employees of the arts council itself.

In a consultative ballot, members of the MSF union voted overwhelmingly in favour of holding a vote of no confidence in the management team at the ACW.

Since then talks have been taking place between the union and management.

A spokesman for the union said it would be wrong to comment.

He said these were matters best pursued within the agreed procedures between unions and management.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the ACW said the consultative ballot "followed restructuring" within the organisation and that a review of changes" would have a positive impact on its internal structures".
