Widow gets People's Voice backing
Trish Law
Trish Law is a candidate for the Blaenau Gwent assembly seat
Supporters of former AM and MP Peter Law have backed his widow Trish to fight his Welsh assembly seat in the by-election on 29 June.

She will stand as an independent with the support of the Blaenau Gwent People's Voice group.

Mr Law died last month aged 58 after suffering from cancer first diagnosed in the 2005 election campaign.

People's Voice will also support Mr Law's election agent Dai Davies for the parliamentary seat.

The assembly by-election has been confirmed for 29 June, with the parliamentary by-election expected on the same day.

People's Voice is the group formed by those who helped Mr Law overturn a 19,000 Labour majority at last year's general election.

Blaenau Gwent's Assembly seat will also be fought by Labour's John Hopkins, the Conservative's Jon Burns, the Liberal Democrats' Steve Bard and Plaid Cymru's John Price.

Labour's Owen Smith, the Conservative's Margrit Williams, the Liberal Democrats' Amy Kitcher and Plaid Cymru's Steffan Lewis are contesting the parliamentary battle.

Solicitor John Matthews will be Green assembly candidate, but the party will not fight the parliamentary seat.
