Witnesses saw Jonathan lay down in front of a passenger train

The funeral has taken place of a teenager who died after apparently lying on a track in front of a passenger train.

Jonathan Reynolds, 15, died at Pencoed railway station, near Bridgend, on 25 January where he was struck by a train.

A coroner's inquest has been opened and adjourned and police are investigating whether bullying could have been a factor in Jonathan's death.

The funeral service was held at Nolton Church, Bridgend, on Thursday.

Jonathan, a year 11 pupil at Bryntirion Comprehensive School, Bridgend, left his home at about 1845 GMT on Wednesday, 25 January.

Less than two hours later, witnesses reported seeing him walk on to the track at Pencoed station and lie down in front of a passenger train.

Following his death, Jonathan's parents Mark and Caroline Reynolds released a statement saying that words could not express their "shock and grief".

They said: "For reasons not yet entirely clear, our beautiful son Jonathan decided to take his own life."

An inquest into Jonathan's death has been opened and adjourned by local coroner Philip Walters, while South Wales Police have said they would "leave no stone unturned" to find out what led to the schoolboy's death.
