Toddler kidnap accused in court
A prison van leaves Cardiff Magistrates Court
A 24-year-old man was driven away from court on Friday morning
A man has appeared in court charged with kidnap and four serious sexual offences after a three-year-old girl was allegedly taken from her home.

Craig John Sweeney, aged 24, of Caerleon Road, Newport, appeared before magistrates in Cardiff on Friday.

He was remanded in custody and will appear before crown court on 16 January. No application for bail was made.

Two men questioned about the alleged offences were released without charge.

Police had made arrests after a girl was allegedly taken from her home in Rumney, Cardiff, on Monday and a subsequent car crash in Wiltshire.

The girl after treatment in hospital is now with her mother.

During the 10-minute hearing, Mr Sweeney spoke only to confirm his name and address.

Prosecutor Yuk Lam said: "These are serious offences."

District Judge John Charles said: "Due to the serious nature of the offence and for your own protection you will be remanded in custody."
