A woman has appeared in court via video link charged with trying to conceal the birth of a child after the discovery of a baby's body in an attic.

Ann Mahoney, 63, of Forsythia Close, Merthyr Tydfil, was arrested earlier this month over the discovery on 20 March on the town's Gurnos estate.

Mrs Mahoney spoke only to confirm her details during a hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates Court on Thursday.

She was released on conditional bail ahead of a further hearing.

District Judge John Charles declined jurisdiction of the case, which will be committed to a crown court and adjourned the case for another hearing to take place at the same magistrates court on 16 June.

Retired nurse Mrs Mahoney is charged with endeavouring to conceal the birth of a child between 1 January, 1951 and 20 March, 2005

She was granted bail on condition that she stays in a bail hostel, abide by a night-time curfew and does not enter Wales except for court appearances.
