University's plan to move campus
Swansea University
Two of the options focus on developing the existing campus
The University of Swansea is considering leaving its site in the city as part of an expansion plan.

A move to Felindre or the Delta Lakes development in Llanelli is one of three options presented by consultants commissioned by the university.

Two others focused on redeveloping the Singleton Campus, which the university said was the team's "preferred option".

The report also found the university would require a "significant amount" of extra space in the future.

The university - which commissioned the Actium Consult team to examine "future strategic development" - have published three options:

  • Redevelop the Fulton House and Union House site
  • Redevelop the site between the halls of residence and Singleton Hospital and refurbish Fulton House
  • Alternative location to Singleton Campus

In a statement on Monday, the university said it needed to have a campus to meet "aspirations".

"Our growth and sustained increases in student admissions is putting pressure on our facilities and requires us to provide additional workspace and an improved infrastructure," it said.

The statement added that the consultants' recommendation to redevelop areas of the Singleton Campus did raise "a number of other issues".

But a university spokeswoman said it was "too early to discuss specifics".
