Top marks for 'perfect' school

Darran Park Primary School impressed inspectors

A south Wales school has been given the educational equivalent of 10 out of 10 after a visit by government inspectors.

So impressed were the inspectors with standards, achievement and management at Darran Park Primary in Ferndale in the Rhondda that they could find no key points which needed action.

The school, which has 265 pupils aged between three and 11, provides a "good quality of education and very good value for money" according to the inspectors.

An exceptional 75% of all lessons were described as "good or very good" and all of the remainder were "satisfactory."

The governing body were also found to be well-informed and very involved in the life of the school.

A delighted Anne Jones, who chairs the governors, said: "We all work together for the school sharing the same vision.

"We are agreed on priorities and all play our different parts. The very good leadership of the head teacher, together with the professionalism and commitment of her enthusiastic team ensure progress.

"We are delighted that the inspectors recognised that we give our children such a good start in learning for life."

Head teacher Enid Davies said the report was the result of the excellent teamwork, industriousness and commitment of the staff, both teaching and non-teaching, and the excellent partnership with the governing body, parents and LEA.

"This has resulted in a positive school ethos," she said.

"The inspectors also approved of our development plan and were able to make some constructive suggestions which we have welcomed."

Now the local authority will try and spread the lessons from Darran Park Primary School throughout the area.
