'Ruff' seas no problem for Gypsy
Gypsy the surfing dog
Gypsy shows off her skills at Newgale
Most dogs may be content with a brisk stroll on the beach - but one or two relish something a little more challenging.

Gypsy, a long-legged Staffordshire Bull Terrier, regularly joins her 12-year-old owner Alex Alderwick on the board, as they hit the waves together.

Alex said the four-year-old could already surf when she arrived with his family in Roch near Newgale, a year ago.

"She is quite unique," he said.

"She loves a walk but if we are on the beach she loves to get into the water for a surf."

"She doesn't get to surf much in the winter but in the summer she's down at the beach all the time."

Gypsy is part of a team of dogs who will assess, with their owners' help, the qualities of a range of Pembrokeshire retreats and award them between one and four "paws".

Each dog has been selected to reflect one of four doggy "personality" types; water-loving, high energy, elderly or young pups.

They are joining their owners to check out those cottages thought to best suit their personality and Gypsy obviously qualifies as the authority on water sports.
