Three teenage boys have been remanded in custody charged with murdering sixth-former Ben Bellamy, who was found on a Swansea beach early last Sunday.
Two 17-year-olds and one aged 15 were remanded by magistrates until Friday.
The body of Ben, aged 17, of Sketty Park, Swansea, a pupil at Olchfa Comprehensive, was discovered after a night out at a club in Mumbles.
There was a large police presence outside the court, where a crowd gathered before the hearing.
The case was committed to the crown court and a hearing is to take place on 21 October. There was no application for bail.

A police appeal will still go ahead near the scene early on Sunday.
The on-the-spot appeal will be staged this Sunday between 0200 - 0600 BST.
Ben's body was found opposite St Helen's rugby ground at 0930 BST last Sunday.
Police asked anyone with any information to contact the incident room on 01792 562 731 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
A minute's silence in memory of Ben will be held before Sunday's Swansea 10K run, which has also been dedicated to him.
The race starts at 1300 BST at St Helen's rugby ground. Swansea Council has consulted Ben's family over the event.
