But the race did not produce the expected result and it was left to a 19-year-old Englishman, Jensen Button, to take the chequered flag.
The competition at the Pembrey race track in Carmarthenshire, is widely recognised as a stepping stone into the top flight. With plenty of tight hairpins and high speed curves, it has always been regarded as a drivers' favourite.
With just a handful of races left this season, the drivers are pulling out all the stops to try and clinch the series. However, even if the title may finally prove elusive, the Formula Three stars of today who went through their paces in Carmarthenshire know that they could soon become the Formula One heroes of tomorrow. ![]() |
