A British family were killed in last month's suicide car bombings at Sharm al-Sheikh in Egypt, it has been confirmed.

Alan Bentley, his wife Mandy, 43, and her son, David Sawyer, 16, died in the 23 July blasts. The family had been living in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

The holiday at the Red Sea resort was a last-minute birthday treat for David.

Mrs Bentley's brother, Peter Langton, from Rhondda, south Wales, said it was tragic.

Mr Langton has waited anxiously for news about his sister Mandy and her family, and said the three-and-a-half weeks had been agonising.

"Everyone holds on to a little bit of hope that somebody has survived one way or another," he said.

"Initially we got told that they might have gone on a safari trip for four days, so the hope was that was the time that they went and maybe the tour guides were not in touch with each other.

"Everybody was hoping that was the case, but we know now that was not the case.

"I think it was a tragic way to die. She's a victim of war."

It was the Bentley family's first holiday for five years and they picked Sharm al-Sheikh as the destination at the last minute - Mr Langton at first thought his sister might have gone to Majorca or Tenerife.

Egyptian authorities said at least 88 people were killed and more than 200 wounded when three bombs went off.

One blast devastated the Ghazala Gardens Hotel, popular with tourists from around the world.

Mrs Bentley, 43, who was originally from Pontypridd, was among the dead along with her husband and teenage son from a previous relationship.

The family had also taken David's friend, Charith Jayawardene, with them. He was named as dead on Tuesday.
