A road sealed off in Bethesda
Police have conducted house to house inquiries in the area
North Wales Police have released a detailed description of a man who tried to strangle a mother in the Bethesda area of north Wales.

Officers said on Wednesday that the man was wearing unusually large glasses when he carried out the attack on Tuesday morning.

The man forced his way into the woman's home and attacked her while her toddler was also in the house.

The woman was not seriously hurt but was said to be "very traumatised".

The attack was carried out between 0930 and 1015 BST on Tuesday when a man knocked on the woman's door asking for water for his car.

After being given water, he returned 10 minutes later to commit what police described as a "serious assault"

White car

The woman managed to fight off the man, but was left traumatised by the attack, police said.

Officers issued a detailed description of the attacker on Wednesday.

He was described as wearing unusually large glasses, was of slim build, aged in his forties and was scruffy with an English accent.

Police have conducted house to house inquiries during and forensic teams have been searching the house where the attack happened.

Officers have also appealed for information on a white car that was seen in the area and which they believe might belong to the attacker.

Police appeal

Police said on Tuesday that police had received reports of a man acting suspiciously in the area on Monday, and believed it could be the same man.

Chief Inspector Derek Roberts of North Wales Police added: "A man was previously seen acting suspiciously near a school at Bethesda and fits the description of the assailant.

"Members of the public called us but by the time we got there he had gone."

He appealed for anyone with information to contact them and said they believed the man could have been staying in the area.

"We're particularly seeking the assistance of people with guest houses, hotels and campsites," he said.

The victim's child was not injured during the attack.

Anyone with any information should call North Wales Police on 0845 6071001.
