Tanker runs aground off coast
The Stolt Tern outside the port
The tanker was due to dock at the Port of Holyhead
A tanker carrying 4,000 tonnes of gas oil has been towed off rocks after running aground as it approached the coast of north Wales.

The Stolt Tern was approaching Holyhead, Anglesey, at 0946 GMT on Wednesday when it became stuck at a breakwater, two miles offshore.

The tanker suffered slight damage to bow and took on a small amount of water, Holyhead coastguard said.

They added there was no pollution and an investigation would take place.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency's counter pollution response team was placed on standby during the incident.

They said no-one involved sustained any injuries.

A tug was used to re-float the tanker shortly after it ran aground and it continued to Holyhead.

Gas oil is used to produce diesel fuel and can be burned in central heating systems.
