Restaurant in chef show row
Gordon Ramsay
Gordon Ramsay has upset the Mattiolis
A south Wales restaurant's owners have spoken of their "outrage" at their treatment by chef Gordon Ramsay's latest TV show.

In Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, the chef gives his opinion on where restaurants are going wrong.

The Walnut Tree, near Abergavenny, is unhappy at the series' title, and says its business could be hit.

But Channel 4 says no-one could have been unclear about the type of programme it was.

"We really wish we had not done it," Enrica Mattioli, who runs The Walnut Tree with her husband Francesco, told BBC Radio Wales.

"We are very outraged and very angry."

Mrs Mattioli said they had been dubious about taking part in the programme, until Ramsay himself persuaded them.

"My husband knew Gordon Ramsay from when he worked in London, and he said it would be good publicity.

"He was saying he really wanted to help us."

However, she said they had no idea the series would be called Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.

"We were given an idea of what the title would be, which was obviously nothing like that - otherwise no-one in their right mind would join it."

In the first of the programmes, which was shown this week, Ramsay swore heavily as he criticised the young chef at a restaurant in West Yorkshire who has since lost his job.

"It is very easy for someone of he stature to go in and talk to a 21-year-old chef like that" added Mrs Mattioli.

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 said the Mattiolis had agreed to the show before the title had been decided.

"The premise of the show was also made clear from the start."

"No-one could have been under any misapprehension about the type of programme it was," added the spokeswoman.

Mr Ramsay was unavailable for comment on Friday.

Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, featuring the Walnut Tree, will be shown on 11 May.
