Firefighters have been tackling a chemical spill at a lorry on a ferry docked at in north Wales.

Three teams of firefighters were called to the Stena Ferry Terminal at Holyhead just before midnight on Wednesday.

Fifteen boxes were reported to be leaking a toxic substance - benzyl butyl phthalate - used to make vinyl flooring.

The lorry was in a special holding bay for hazardous loads and was isolated.

The liquid emits fumes which can cause skin irritation and a sore throat.

North Wales Fire Service said the chemical had been kept out of the drainage system and there was no threat of pollution.

Firefighters were using environmental protection equipment to tackle the spillage.
