Henna tattoo 'blisters' warning
Henna tattoos
A mix of henna dye and a chemical can cause skin problems
Trading standards officers in Cardiff are warning people not to buy henna tattoos from street traders, after reports of skin complaints.

Officials have confiscated dyes used by one trader and found a chemical which can cause blistering to the skin.

It follows complaints about children receiving skin problems from the tattoos.

A council spokesman said enforcement action was continuing.

Trading standards are looking at the complaints and at possible action under consumer safety legislation.

Paul Williams, the city centre manager, said: "I would recommend all shoppers in the city not to purchase from individuals trading on the streets, however attractive that proposition appears."

He said it was "imperative" that everyone was aware of potential risks.
