Fatal cliff fall woman named
Rhossilli beach on the Gower Peninsula
The accident happened at the eastern end of Rhossili beach
A woman who fell to her death from cliffs at a south Wales beauty spot has been named by police.

Emergency services fought to try to save Claire Stickler, who was 24 and from the Bristol area, on Rhossili beach on Gower.

Her friend James Goddard, 27, from the Bracknell area of Berkshire, was also seriously injured in the fall on Tuesday afternoon.

South Wales Police say the friends may have been rock climbing when they fell.

Emergency services were called to the beach's eastern end at 1345 BST on Tuesday.

Despite efforts by rescuers, Ms Stickler died at the scene around three quarters of an hour later.

Mr Goddard was airlifted to Morriston Hospital in Swansea with spinal injuries. Police say his condition there is serious.

Coastguards and an RAF helicopter co-ordinated the rescue at the scene.

Both families of the couple have been informed, say police.

The parents of the injured man were travelling from Berkshire to see their son in hospital.

An investigation is under way.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Swansea police station on 01792 456999.
