Boy loses arm in boat accident
RAF Sea King
The 11-year-old victim was airlifted to hospital
An 11-year-old boy has had his arm amputated after falling from the back of a speedboat onto its propeller.

The boy was sitting on his father's 30ft speedboat when he fell into the sea off the west Wales coast at the weekend.

The boy had been understood to be critical but stable after the accident, but there was no update on his condition after the operation.

The speedboat was 150ft from the shore and being followed by a family friend in a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) when the accident happened.

Coastguards said the second boat created a wake which made the speedboat tip up.

Paramedics and coastguards were called to Pengarreg Slip at Llanrhystud, Ceredigion from where the boy was taken to hospital.

Dyfed-Powys Police were investigating the accident, which happened at about 1830 BST on Saturday.

The youngster, from Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, was taken by ambulance to Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth, and then transferred by RAF Sea King helicopter to Morriston Hospital, Swansea.

He was then transferred to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
